Redesign of the Game Interface and Brand Elements
Working with R8 Games team, we designed the UI experience for the racing game Formula Fusion. We gave it a fresh coat of brand paint and styling while creating a console gaming UI that was easier to use and far more readable. The client also wanted the UI to feel like part of the world experience, rather than a bunch of floating design elements, so we ensured the UI was integrated into the bigger game story. The game also features artwork by Ian Anderson and his studio Designers Republic.
We created a UI that embraces the artwork of old sci-fi classics like Blade Runner and Alien. In these movies, the screens were not slick complicated interfaces with clean fast-moving graphics. They were simple 2-color with faults and even some glitchy elements, but they all still worked! Punch it, Chewy! The idea was to put the gamer in the game world – with the UI being a part of that world rather than some unrelatable fancy-pants graphics floating over your dystopian future. We wanted it to feel gritty and real.

The colors are based based on a lot of different sci-fi inspirations. We wanted to create something that felt in your face but didn't overwhelm the player – and was easy on the eyes. The blues and greens felt comfortable and we could use the yellow for highlighting key elements.
